Gender
With the female lead wearing high heels, and a short revealing dress. This is very stereotypical of a young woman to be fashionable and flirtatious. This is the case for the main character. We thought it would be best to use this type of character as not only would it be a good represent the 'femme fatale' ty pe character in film noir's but also represent a stereotypical woman. Stereotypically women are known for using their looks to try and get their way, in a similar way to age, we showed this through the conversation with the detective.
In terms of typical traits for gender our sequence includes a stereotype but also challenges it a few moments later. For example the boyfriend is very typically male; agressive and dominant, where as the detective is a lot more understanding, empathetic and subordinate. The detective challenges the male stereotype as he shows a lot more traits that would stereotypically be found in a female.
'Lucy' is the main character and I believe that a lot of female's would relate to her as she is a very modern woman. She is independent, strong willed and takes control of situations. There is only one situation in the sequence when she is a stereotypical female and that is during the argument, when she is subordinate and quiet. I think 'Lucy' is the best representation of gender in the sequence as it shows a change in her character to being a typical woman to reversing the stereotype.
